September 4, 2006And Now for Something Completley Different…More good news for potential PS3 owners. Check out this incredibly technical explanation as to why the PS3 may have slower loading times then the XBOX 360. According to a number of videogame blogs, there is a growing concern that to actually take advantage of the high defintion nature of the PS3 you must buy the more expensive model. Even if you you do purchase the $600 version of the console you still need a cable that apparently runs fro $25-60. September 3, 2006Politcs is a Dirty Online GameFormer Virginia Governor and potential 2008 presidential candidate Mark Warner gave a speech recently in the online social game Second Life recently. This has pretty intresting untapped potential. Using online games as a mass communcaitons tool has many applications, from advertising to education.

September 1, 2006The More You Know…Codemasters has announced that they will publish Fall of Liberty, a first-person-shooter that dares the revolutionize the genre by setting the game in a world where the Nazi's won WII. On one there could be some fairly intresting gameplay in this. On the other hand at point will the videogame industry try a diffrent historical era? There has never been a decent western game. The United States and the Soviets fought in dozens of diffrent theaters durring the Cold War. If you upon the genre to allow sword-fighting someone could build a brillant pirate game. History is full of cool stuff? See isn't learning neat?

August 31, 2006Livin' LargeThis just in: the official PS3 slogan for Europe is "this is living." Maybe Sony is trying some kind of anti-marketing campaign where they try so hard to make people not intrested in buying a PS3 that it becomes cool to do so. August 28, 2006Fall of CivilizationThe Fall is almost upon us which means the deluge of videogames that are released between September to December is about to begin. I am actually curious how sales will do this quarter. On one hand the market has been stirred by all of the next generation hype. On the other hand developers must seem some drop of intrest durring the summer burst of mediocrity. How many people just stop coming into their local store when they see almost nothing intresting released for almost the entire summer months? August 27, 2006PAX ImperiumVideogame pundits are calling the Lepzig show for Microsoft. Most, are caling Sony the clear looser. Which just means for more bad press for the electronics giant. To add insult to injury both of the owners of Penny Arcade have announced that they will not be purchasing a Playstation 3 at launch. So if any good comes of any of this it really will answer two questions, how important are trade shows and how important is internet coverage. As near as I can tell Sony has not made strong showing at any of the shows in has attended. It is also getting slammed by internet columnists. So it would reasonable to judge its success as a meter for how important both of these elements actually are in the games industry. August 26, 2006Talk About Changing the Consitution Hey Hey YeahA federal court has just overturned a Lousiana law that would limit acess to videogames with objectionable subject matter. From Joystiq: "For those keeping track, this is the seventh separate federal ruling defending video games as speech." I really think the only event that will change the seemly endless cycle of: legislature passes law, high court overturns law is a supreme court ruling. But how that will go is anyone's guess.
